19: Reading Drawing Building

Michael Silver
1996

Pamphlet Architecture Edition 19 cross-examines two projects; the Library and the Drawing Machine. These projects explore the themes of reading and drawing as forms of representation that define how we interact with and within architecture. Stan Allen, architect and theorist, describes in the introduction that the projects’ “meaning is in the way [they] work, and vice-versa.” Additionally, Reading Drawing Building emphasizes the role of the book and the fundamentals of chance disrupt the structured computational systems of the metropolis.
